William Hawbaker

William Hawbaker, 86, of 2920 Sunnyside, died Thursday, June 25, in Klein Memorial Hospital.

He was born Feb. 3, 1895, in van Buren County to Charley and Mathilda Spray Hawbaker. He married Florence Peck Ryan in Ft. Madison June 24, 1951.

Mr. Hawbaker was Lee County auditor from 1954 to 1956; had worked in the Burlington city assessor's office; and taught school in Mt. Sterling and Donnellson. He was a former Ft. Madison Barbershop Quartet member; was a World War I Army veteran; and was a Protestant.

Surviving: his wife; a stepson, Robert Ryan, Fonda; a stepdaughter, Theresa (Marcey) Mack, Bellevue, Wash.; a brother, Thomas, Sun City, Ariz.; two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Warner, Stockport, and Mrs. Margaret Thompson, Ft. Madison; eight stepgrandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren.

Funeral: 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Lunning Chapel, the Rev. Clifford Haskins; Oakland Cemetery, Ft. Madison. A memorial has been established to First United Presbyterian Church.
