James R. Gilchrist Dies In Fairfield Hospital
James R. Gilchrist passed away in the Jefferson County hospital , at Fairfield, Tuesday morning, March 22, 1932 following an operation for apendicitis. He was taken sick Friday night, taken to the hospital Saturday morning and operated on Sunday morning.
Mr. Gilchrist and family moved to Keosauqua from their farm about three miles northeast of Mt. Zion about fifteen years ago, where he was engaged in the coal and ice business until moving to Fairfield in 1926, which has since been his home. He was a member of the Keosauqua school board at the time of his removal to Fairfield. If he had lived until April 29, he would have been sixty-eight years old. He leaves his wife, three sons and one daughter a number of relatives and a host of friends to mourn his departure.
Funeral services will be held from the Mt. Zion Presbyterian church, Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Burial in the Miller cemetery.Source: Marietta (Nelson) Perkins Scrapbook.
