RAY S. ROUSH

Ray S. Roush, son of Samuel R. and Jane Schafer Roush, was born October 22, 1895 near Douds and departed this life Monday, December this life Monday, December 29, 1980, at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua at the age of 85.

He married Clair Barker and they farmed in the Douds and Mt. Sterling communities.

Surviving are his widow, three sons, Samuel and Robert both of Keosauqua and Carl of Newton; seven daughters, Beatrice Panting, Portersville, Calif.; Janice Judd and Louise Nichols, both of Mt. Sterling; Alice Groene, Annadale, Virginia; Hazel Jean Roush, Keosauqua; Mildred Hutchinson, Pinole, California; and Frances Roush, St. Louis, Missouri. Also remaining to cherish his memory are twenty-five grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. May Miller of Fairfield, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, four sisters, and a son, Keith, who gave his life for his country in World War II.

Ray was a long-time member of Keosauqua Lodge No. 10, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, and an avid hunter and outdoorsman.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 31, 1980, at 10 a.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, with Rev. David Kennedy officiating. Pallbearers were Doug, Tim, and Jeff Roush, Ted Daugherty, Craig Deming, and Gary, Gregg, and Dennis Nichols. Interment was in Harness Cemetery at Mt. Sterling. A memorial has established for the Heart Fund.
