ZELMA MC SWIENEY

Zelma McSwieney, daughter of Frank B. and Eliza Waggoner Corporen, was born June 9, 1906, in Putnam County, Missouri and departed this life Tuesday, December 15, 1981, at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua at the age of 75. On September 1, 1932, she married John McSwieney in Detroit, Michigan. He died in 1935.

Remaining to cherish her memory are a daughter, Marilyn Bogue of of Des Moines, a son, John, of Allenhurst, New Jersey, six grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Lillie Pruden and Blanche Woods, both of Fairfield, and Lillian Anderson of Agency, four brothers, Lewis Corporon, Dougherty, Iowa, Carl Corporon, Dumot, Iowa, Lloyd Corporon, Latimer, Iowa, and Emery Corporon in California, other relatives and many friends.

"Mac" was a Registered Nurse who practiced her profession in Detroit and Fairfield before moving to Keosauqua in 1949 to join the original nursing staff at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital when it opened. After a number of years at the hospital, she became the office nurse for Drs. Worrell & Furumoto, where she continued until her retirement.

She attended the Keosauqua Christian Church and was a member of the Keosauqua Business and Professional Women's Club.

She will be remembered as a devoted mother and grandmother and a servant of humanity through her long career of ministering to the sick and suffering.

Funeral services were held Friday, December 18, 1981, at 9:30 a.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with Rev. Louise Knupp officiating. Pallbearers were Quentin and Larry Pruden, Rusty Bogue, Alan McPherson, Dr. James T. Worrell and Larry Lee and Dr. Kiyoski Furumoto. Interment was in Harlan Cemetery near Dumont, Iowa, with Rev. James Ford officiating.
