Charles Raymond Younker

Charles Raymond Younker, 62, was born January 2, 1907 at Indianola, the son of Orpheus and Cordelia Parrott Younker, and died at the Davis County Hospital, Bloomfield, October 13, 1969.

Younker was a graduate of the Ft. Madison Business College; was manager of the Milton Feed, Seed and Grain Store and manager-owner of the Texaco-DX stations in Milton. For the past four years he had been cashier of the State Savings Bank, a branch of the State Savings Bank of Cantril.

Younker was a member of the Friends Church of Ackworth; he was also a member of the Russell Strait Post no. 483 of Milton, a veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Army as Staff Sergeant of the 1631 Construction Battalion from 1943-1945, at which time he received an honorable discharge.

On September 19, 1927, he was united in marriage to Velma Carpenter, who survives, as well a son, Jim Younker of Bloomfield; two sisters, Mrs. Olive Palencia of Van Cover, Can., and Mrs. Maxine Sidwell of LaClaire; five brothers, Emil of Pocahontas, Ark., Jim of Indianola, Holms of Pleasantville, Cleo and Donald of Milton; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held October 15, 1969 at the Milton United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Harold Harryman of Newton and James D. McKean of Milton. Military services were held at the cemetery by the Russell Strait Post. The Wellborn Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

A memorial has been established for the United Methodist Church in Milton and the Russell Strait Post.
