Mabel P. Van Auken

Mabel P. Van Auken, daughter of Russell and Olive Moland Sexton, was born April 14, 1908 in Milton, and died the evening of Monday, and died the evening of Monday, Feb. 25, 1985 at Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield at the age of 76.

Mabel graduated from Milton High School and worked in the Citizens Bank in Milton and in the office of the Van Buren County Superintendent of Schools.

On June 19, 1937 she married Craig Van Auken in Bloomfield. They farmed near Cantril and retired to town in 1975. Craig died in 1979. A sister, Neta, also preceded her in death.

Remaining are a brother, Roy L. Sexton and his wife, Annabelle of Burlington, four nieces, Sharon Anson, Adrian, Mich.; Sheila Davison, Sacramento, Calif.; Kandi Lewis, Boulder, Colo.; and Vera Welch, Davenport. Also surviving are a sister-in-law Villa Bashford, Davenport, other relatives and many close friends.

Mabel was a long-time active member of the Cantril United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Women and was a Past Matron and presently the Treasurer of Cantril Chapter No. 437, Order of Eastern Star.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 28, 1985 at 11 A.M. in the Cantril United Methodist Church, with Rev. Charles Butler officiating. Interment was in Maple Grove Cemetery, Cantril. Arrangements were by Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua. A memorial was established for her church.
