Clara Murdock

Clara Murdock, age 84 years and three days, died at the Bloomfield Manor Nursing Home Tuesday, October 28, 1977. She was born on a farm north and west of Donnellson, Iowa, to Abraham and Mary Ellen Halbasch Bentzinger October 25, 1893.

September 13, 1937, she was married to Reynolds C. Murdock at Ft. Madison, Iowa. He preceded her in death May 2, 1965.

After their marriage, Rev. Murdock became a chaplain with the United States Air Force. They spent several years in South Dakota, Texas and South Carolina; also, three years in Japan. They moved back to Cantril, Iowa, where he pastored in several churches until they retired to their home in Cantril, Iowa, where she had resided until failing health no longer permitted her to live alone.

Clara was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Women's Society, Eastern Star Lodge of Donnellson, Iowa, Chapter AD, PEO and several other organizations.

She leaves to mourn her passing, two stepsons, Carl Murdock and wife, Ferne, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and William Murdock and wife, Joyce of Glenview, Ill., two granddaughters, two grandsons and one brother, George Bentzinger in a nursing home in Chariton, Iowa.

Funeral services were held at the United Methodist Church at Cantril, Iowa, Monday, October 31, 1977, with Rev. Ed Kail officiating. Burial was in the Maple Grove Cemetery at Cantril, Iowa. The following served as pall bearers: Paul Cox, Walter Epperly, Herbert Megrath, Lloyd F. Smith, Wilbur Martin and Craig Van Aukin.

Wellborn Funeral Home of Milton, Iowa, was in charge of the arrangements.
