Dorothy G. Kerr

Dorothy G. Kerr, daughter of Henry and Jennie Raines Merritt, was born Sept. 29, 1899 in Scotland County, Mo., and died the morning of Wednesday, April 24, 1985 at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua at the age of 85.

She graduated from Memphis High School and Graham Hospital School of Nursing in Keokuk.

On October 22, 1922 she married Clyde Kerr at Bloomfield. They farmed in Scotland County south of Cantril and retired to Cantril in 1965.

Remaining are her husband, three sons, Stanley and his wife, Joyce of Des Moines; Hollis and his wife Ruth of rural Cantril and Larry and his wife Margaret of Huxley. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Bruce Kerr and wife, Elaine; Jill Shoop and husband Steve; and Lori, Sheri, Ann, Kara, and Joy Kerr. Three great grandchildren, Allison, Alicia, and Brian Kerr, a sister, Willa Ferree of Orange, Calif., other relatives and friends survive.

A son, Burton Earl, and several brothers and sisters preceded her in death.

Dorothy was a member of the Cantril United Methodist Church and its Methodist Women, was a Past Matron of Cantril Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, and a member of the Farifield White Shrine and the Social Order of Beauceant, Ottumwa.

Funeral services were held Friday, April 26, 1985 at 11 a.m. in the Cantril United Methodist Church, with Rev. Charles Butler officiating. Interment was in Maple Grove Cemetery, Cantril. A memorial was established for her church. Arrangements were in charge of Pedrick Funeral Home, Douds.
