W. KEITH GASTON
William Keith Gaston, son of William and Sue DeHart Gaston, was born November 3, 1913 on the Gaston family farm in the Center Chapel Community south of Keosauqua and died the evening of Tuesday, April 4, 1989 at University, Iowa City at the age of 75.
He was a graduate of Keosauqua High School and attended parsons College in Fairfield. On May 10, 1934 he married Ruth Wells at Cantril. They farmed the family farm until moving to Keosauqua in 1966. Mrs. Gaston died August 1, 1982. A daughter, Susan Atwood, also preceded him in death.
Keith was a Van Buren County Supervisor from 1949 until 1965, and had served as President of the Iowa County Officers Association. From 1966 until January, 1989 he was a sales representative for Reliable Culvert Co. of Centerville.
He was a member of Center Chapel United Methodist Church, was active in the Van Buren Community Players, and was well known as a singer in the community, having sung for hundreds of funerals and weddings.
Surviving are a son, Ned and his wife, Lorene of Keosauqua, a daughter Ann Scaletta and her husband, Frank of Elk Grove Village, Illinois, four grandchildren, Steve and Kerry Gaston and Jeff and Jackie Atwood, a great granddaughter, Randi Sue Gaston, a sister, Georgia Mounce, Memphis, Mo., other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 8, 1989, at 11 A.M. in the Keosauqua United Methodist church with Rev. Don Morrison and Rev. Louise Westfall officiating. Interment was in Center Chapel Cemetery south of Keosauqua. A memorial was established. Arrangements were in charge of Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua.
