DEAN CARL GAFFNEY

Dean Carl Gaffney, passed away at the home of his son, Norris near Memphis, Mo. on the morning of October 25, 1977 about 6:00 A.M. at the age of 74 years, six months and 17 days.

Dean was born in April 8, 1903 to John and Nora Haynes Gaffney at Buckhart, Ill. In March 1919 the Gaffney family moved to the present farm southwest of Milton. On August 11, 1921 he was united in marriage to Mary Etta Bletzer at the Methodist Parsonage in Bloomfield, Iowa.

He had spent most of his lie farming and had lived on the present farm home for the past forty odd years. He and Mary celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on August 11, 1971. Since Mary's death on July 22, 1976 Dean continued to live alone until the last few weeks and due to failing health he was residing with his children.

He was a member of the Milton United Methodist Church.

Dean is survived by two sons: Norris and wife Thelma of Memphis, Mo.; Jerrold and wife Nancy of Barneveld, Wis.; two daughters, Mrs. Jeanne Evans and husband John of Des Moines; Mrs. Norma Zeitler and husband James of Douds, iowa; two brothers: Ray Gaffney of Stockton, Calif. and Harold Gaffney of Fort Madison, Iowa and one sister, Dora Bletzer of Milton, Iowa; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, and a multitude of friends and neighbors.

Funeral services were held for Dean at the United Methodist Church of Milton, Iowa on Friday, Oct. 28, 1977 at 2:00 P.M. with the Rev. Ed Kail officiating. Burial was in the Sunnyside Cemetery at Milton, Iowa.

The Wellborn Funeral Home of Milton in charge of arrangements.
