SHIRLEY A. DOWNARD

Shirley A. Downard, 65, of Keosauqua died at 1:15 a.m. August 15, 1993, at her home.

She was born October 22, 1927, in Milton to Waldo and Wilma Russell Atkins. She married Verne Downard on May 25, 1947.

She graduated from Milton High School, had worked at Schaefer Pen Co. in Fort Madison, Van Buren Community School, Hotel Manning and Van Buren Telephone Co., all in Keosauqua. She retired as cashier of the telephone company in 1990. She was a member of Keosauqua United Methodist Church and Beer-Barker Unit, American Legion Auxiliary and had been a Girl Scout leader.

She is survived by her husband; two sons, Terry of Clear Lake, Calif. and John of Davenport; two daughters, Judy Andrews and Penny Storer of Des Moines; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a sister, Kay Rhoten of Linden.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

The service was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 17, 1993 in Keosauqua United Methodist Church, the Rev. Gale Hawhee officiating. Burial was in Fellows Cemetery in Keosauqua.

Memorials may be made to Keosauqua Public Library.

Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, was in charge of arrangements.
