Osa Burns

Osa J. (Black) Burns, daughter of Charles and Loretta (Crawford) Black, was born July 14, 1899, near Memphis, Missouri, and departed this life on September 22, 1977, at the Finley Hospital, Dubuque, Iowa.

On October 10, 1915, she was united in marriage to Roy Burns at her parents' home. To this union was born seven children, Lavaughn Hope, Farmington, Iowa, Howard Burns, Rowley, Iowa, Clarence Burns, Oakville, Iowa, David Burns, Maquoketa, Iowa, David Burns, Homestead, Iowa, Kenneth Burns, Maquoketa, Iowa, and Beverly Aschbrenner, Moneta, Virginia.

Osa and Roy lived in Downing, Missouri, until 1942, when they moved to the Esgate community, north of Maquoketa, where they farmed until 1959. Then they moved to their present home in Baldwin, Iowa.

Osa had been in ill health for the past 18 months.

Osa was a Past President of the Pope Rebeckah Lodge of Maquoketa; a member of the Lea Encampment of Maquoketa; State Past President of the Lapm of Iowa; and a member of the Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband; two daughters; 2 sons-in-law; five sons; five daughter-in-law; 23 grandchildren; 15 grand-children; a sister, Mrs. Harry (Ola) Graber of Memphis, Missouri, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Osa was a faithful, loving wife and mother, and will be sadly missed by her family.
