Bruce Howard Lyon

Bruce Howard Lyon, 75, of 104 E. Monroe Ave., died at 6:06 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dick Eis officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Family visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. Thursday at Behner Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Evergreen Cemetery Tree and flower Fund or First Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Lyon was born April 9, 1924, near Lockridge, the son of Robert and Valeira Snider Lyon. He married Iris E. Strait 10, 1944, in Yuma, Ariz.

Mr. Lyon lived most of his life in Van Buren and Jefferson counties. He was a farmer, meat cutter at Coles Grocery and Parsons College. He and his wife owned and operated Bruce's Cafe in Fairfield. He was superintendent of Evergreen Cemetery before his retirement.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in World War II. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Fairfield Elks Lodge No. 1192, Howard Johnson Coffee Club, and a past member of the Kiwanis Club. He was one of the first original members of the Fairfield Friendship Force.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Connie Hedger of Fairfield; one son, Steven Lyon of Stockport; four grandchildren; two brothers, Harold Lyon of Davenport and Max Lyon of Burlington; and one sister, Verle Hall of Birmingham.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Raymond Lyon; and one sister, Berniece Allbaugh.
