MRS. SARAH BROOKS

Sarah Harmon, daughter of John and Hannah Harmon, was born Jan. 6th, 1839 in Jackson township, Morgan county, Ohio, and departed this life August 21, 1924, at her son's home near Douds, Iowa, at the age of 85 years, 5 months and 15 days.

She was united in marriage to Geo. Washington Brooks Nov. 8th, 1869. To this union were born 6 children, 4 having preceded her in death, Ida, Oliver, George and his twin sister. Those living are John Brooks and Mrs. Ella Zeitler of Douds. One step-son, Charlie Brooks of Oberlin, Kansas; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and one sister, Nancy Hale of Milton, besides many relatives and friends who will mourn their loss of one who hath done what she could.

She was one of a family of 14 children, moving to Iowa with her father's family when a young girl in the year 1848. She saw much of the hardships of the pioneer life. Her father entered land northeast of Milton and she has lived in the vicinity ever since, and on the same farm for more than 50 years, until 2 years ago failing health caused her to give up housekeeping and live with her children.

She united with the Baptist church under Rev. Valandingham's preaching many years ago. She ever trusted in her Lord and many times said she was ready to go when her Master called. Her long weary nights and days of suffering are past, and just before the morning sun arose her spirit ascended to the one that gave it to be more beautiful and brighter than the morning sun itsself(sp).

Funeral services were conducted at the residence of her son, John Brooks, Lord's Day, August 24, at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Isaac S. Bussing minister of the First Christian church of Keosauqua officiated, with interment in Grove cemetery.
