Amy Dye Bell

Amy Dye Bell, daughter of Thomas and Harriet Kays Dye, was born December 17, 1879 near Cantril, Iowa; and passed away at her home south of Milton on May 22, 1960, after an illness of three years.

She spent her entire life in the Milton community, and was educated in the Milton schools from which she was graduated with the class of 1898. She taught school for several years finally culminating her teaching career in the Milton school.

On April 23, 1903, she was united in marriage to Jess M. Bell also of Milton. To this union were born three children: Harriet, Jessie, and Thomas. Most of their married life was spent on the farm where she died, and it was there that they celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1953.

For forty-nine years she was a member of the Grace Methodist church at Milton; for sixty-three years a member of Chapter A.D. P.E.O.; charter member of the Woman's Society of Christian Service; and a member of the South Prairie social club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister; two daughters, Mrs. John Schindler of Pulaski, Iowa, and Mrs. Howard Schley of Houston, Texas; one son, Thomas Bell of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; three grandchildren; and a host of friends.

Amy will be remembered for her love and devotion to her home and family; her kind and gentle spirit, and her joyous nature. Her life exemplified growth in faith and service, and the beautiful things of life.

Funeral services were held at the Grace Methodist church in Milton in Tuesday, May 24, 1960 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Harold Harryman officiating. Interment was in Sunnyside cemetery. Interment was in Sunnyside cemetery. The body was in charge of the Wellborn Funeral Home.
