DEATH OF BONAPARTE MAN
Charles H. Middleton Passed Away
at His Home at Advanced Age
of Eighty-two Years

[Special to The Gate City.] BONAPARTE, Iowa, March 8 - Mr. Charles H. Middleton, one of the best known and most highly respected Bonaparte citizen's, died at his home here Thursday morning at 9:20 o'clock at the age of 82 years. His last illness was of only a few days duration, (although he has been in failing health for the past year.

Mr. Middleton came from Pennsylvania to Bentonsport many years ago and for some time was employed in a drug store conducted by his brother at that place. He afterward worked for several years for the late George W. Jack, who was engaged in the mercantile business.

He moved from Bentonsport to Bonaparte in 1882 and was in business here for many years, retiring a few years ago when failing health made the change necessary.

He conducted a grocery store here for years, then had a racket store, and again entered the grocery business in the store now owned by C. E. Sandford.

Being in business for so many years and always before the public, gave him a chance to get acquainted with every man, women and child in the vicinity and he numbered his friends by his acquaintances.

He always was in favor of anything good for Bonaparte and always contributed freely toward any movement that would benefit the town and community.

Mr. Middleton was taken ill last Sunday and at once grew seriously sick and his relatives and many friends were informed that the end was near. His son Clarence, who resides in Chicago, was notified and started for home at once, but arrived yesterday morning just a short time after his father passed away.

Besides his wife, Mr. Middleton leaves three sons and one daughter, the sons being John H. Middleton, of Ottumwa; Herbert Middleton, who is in the southwest, and Clarence Middleton, of Chicago, and the daughter, Mrs. John Whitlock resides in Wichita, Kansas, besides some grand-children and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Middleton belonged to the Bonaparte G. A. R. post and was also a member of the Bonaparte Masonic lodge.

The announcements for the funeral were to have been made today and will probably be held Sunday afternoon at the Presbyterian church.
