Mrs. Frank Smart

Mrs. Jennie Smart, 83, Hillsboro, died in Van Buren county hospital, Keosauqua, at 1 a.m. Friday, June 11.

She was born August 2, 1887, in Lee county, the daughter of Charles and Margaret Hill Pickard. She married Frank Smart December 30, 1903, in Bonaparte.

Mrs. Smart was a charter member of the Christian church in Stockport and the Hillsboro American Legion auxiliary. She was a 50-year member of the Bonaparte chapter, Order of Eastern Star.

Surviving: Her husband; two sons, Craig of Hillsboro and Guy of Lompoc, Calif.; three brothers, Ira Pickard, Hillsboro, Roy Pickard of Bonaparte and Larry Pickard, Farmington.

Her parents, one brother, Guy Pickard and a sister, Lere Sanderson, are deceased.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 14 at 2 p.m. at the Hillsboro Christian Church with Rev. Chester Werft, pastor of the Stockport Christian Church officiating.

Music was provided by Mrs. Mary Ross, organist.

Interment was in Hillsboro Cemetery with arrangements by Beatty-Jennings Chapels.

Casket escorts were John Fleming, J.M. Dodds, M.M. Doan, Jr., Phil Hixson, M.M. Doan, Dr. and James W. Stilwell.
