DIED - Dec. 26, 1878, at the residence of Mrs. N. C. Prewitt, MARY ANN RUTLEDGE, aged 91 years, 2 months and 5 days.
The deceased was born October 21st, 1787, near Winsboro, South Carolina.
While quite young her parents moved to Georgia, where they remained till she was about grown. She also spent part of her life in Kentucky, Illinois, and since 1837 in Van Buren county. She professed religion when about 18 at a camp meeting in Georgia. Three years after she moved to Kentucky. Was married to James Rutledge, and with her husband united with the Old School Presbyterian church. But soon after the organization of the Cumberland Presbyterian church in 1810, she united with it and was a member until her death. For more than three scores and ten years she has been an active church member.
Oh blessed thought, that after being led by devine counsel through a long life, and sustained in the hour of death, she will now be inseparable with Christ throughout eternity.
She lived as peaceful as a dove;
She died as blossoms die;
And now her spirit floats above;
A seraph in the sky.Source: Birmingham Enterprise, 2 Jan 1879, p.3 col. 6
