Ira Whitcanack, 89, died at 6:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 25 in Van Buren County Memorial Hospital after a long illness. He had been a patient there since Dec. 29.
The son of William and Angie Hull Whitcanack, he was born Nov. 14, 1881 near Keosauqua. On Dec. 5, 1928 he married Jennie Thomas at Keokuk. A retired farmer, he spent his entire life in Van Buren County.
Survivors are his widow and one sister, Mrs. Emma Hull of Davenport, several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Catcott Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Millard Marshall in charge. Burial was in Purdom Cemetery. A memorial fund was established.
