Death of Henry Chapman

Henry Chapman, who first came to Oregon in 1853, died at his home on Oak street, in this city, yesterday, in the 71st year of his age. The deceased has long been in failing health. Wednesday night of last week he was taken severely ill from a complication of troubles and death came to him yesterday morning at 11 o'clock. Mr. Chapman, who crossed the plains to Oregon with the immigration of 1853, for many years until two years ago resided on a farm on Emigrant creek, southeast of Ashland, and was well known. Recently he removed to town and at the time of his death was residing with his sister, Mrs. M. Mickelson, on Oak street, who with one brother, Daniel chapman of Barron precinct, survive him. A brother and three sisters reside in Iowa.

The funeral takes place tomorrow, Friday, from the residence, interment in Ashland cemetery.

Henry Hawker Chapman was the son of Samuel Chapman and Sarah Smeed Chapman, longtime residents of Van Buren County, Iowa.
