Walter Barker

Walter J. Barker, 84, died at 6:45 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 27 at the Jefferson Square Manor in Ottumwa, where he had been a patient five months.

He was born Aug. 19, 1886, in Mount Zion in Van Buren County, the son of Hugh B. and Anna Saunderson Barker. A lifelong resident of Van Buren County, he was engaged in farming. He had been an auctioneer and served on the board of trustees and was an assessor of the Selma United Methodist Church, and the Douds Masonic Lodge.

Surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Hazel Roush of Keosauqua, Mrs. Orpha Plowman of Selma, Mrs. Clair Roush of Mt. Sterling, and Miss Willa Barker of Selma. Six brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

The service was held Wednesday, Dec. 30 at 1:30 p.m. at the Campbell Funeral Home in Eldon conducted by the Rev. Millard Marshall. Burial was in Purdom Cemetery in Keosauqua.

A memorial has been established payable to the Heart Fund.
