James S. Nixon

James S. Nixon, 74, liftime(sp) resident here, died about 12:10 a.m. Friday May 15, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua. He had been in failing health one year and in serious condition one week.

Born March 13, 1896, at Stockport, he was the son of Julius G. and Lena Beswick Nixon. He married Elizabeth Carmichael on Apr. 26, 1930. She survives.

He was a member of the Stockport United Methodist Church, a veteran of World War I, and a member of the Masonic Lodge and other Masonic bodies, Eastern Star, the Van Buren County Fair Board and the Sheep Empire Association. He served 20 years as a 4-H leader.

Other survivors are three sons, Jack T. Spaulding of San Luis Obispo, Calif., Larry G. Nixon of Stockport; one daughter, Mrs. Wayne Miller of Keosauqua, one brother, Aura of Stockport and two sisters, Ethel Harlan and Blanche Landers, both of Stockport.

The service was held Saturday at Stockport United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Dwight C. Bonham. Burial was in Spencer Cemetery with Masonic grave rites.
