Mrs. Vivian McDowell

Mrs. Vivian McDowell, 43, Metaline Falls, Wash., a native of Salem, died Saturday, April 14, in Hinsdale Hospital, Hinsdale, Ill.

She was born Feb. 14, 1927, the daughter of Jay and Luella Miller Long. She attended Iowa Wesleyan College, Mt. Pleasant, and Iowa State University, Ames, and taught for several years. She married Robert McDowell at Mt. Pleasant June 6, 1949.

Surviving are her mother, Mrs. Luella Long of Salem; 2 brothers, Harold E. Long of New Orleans and Robert J. Long of Keosauqua; 4 sisters, Mrs. Erma Serles, Hinsdale, Mrs. Donald Watson, Heyburn, Idaho, Mrs. Conrad Taylor, Roseville, Ill., and Mrs. Hjalmar Monson of Mt. Pleasant.

Funeral services were held at the Beatty-Foster Chapel at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, with the Rev. Gordon Hewlett officiating. Burial was in Salem East Cemetery.
