MRS. J.E. PAYNE

Funeral services for Mrs. J.E. Payne, who died Oct. 1 at the Davis Nursing Home in Keosauqua, were held Thursday, Oct. 3, at the Christian Church in Milton with Rev. Herbert Phillips and Rev. James McKean officiating. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Alma Iris Wanzer was born near Keithsburg, Ill. on July 8, 1881, the first child of Charles and Sarah Pierson Wanzer. Others were Mrs. Bruce (Cassie) Mumby of Belle Plaine, Ia. and a brother, Emmett, deceased.

She was married in 1901 to James Eugene Payne who preceded her in death in January, 1952. Their children were Eugenia and Leota, who died in 1919, Cleo of Pulaski, Charles and Mrs. Jack (Sarah) Story of Bonaparte, Mrs. Carl (Selma) Andrews of Milton, James of Burlington, and Mrs. Verdon (Wilma) Perkins of Cantril. There are 19 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren with one deceased; several nieces and nephews.

She was a member of the Christian Church.

Nieces and nephews attending the service were Clyde Mumby, Mrs. Bruce Border, Carol Border, Mrs. Lloyd Gorsch, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Van Kerchzoorda of near Belle Plaine, Ia.
