OBITUARIES

Alvin C. Mayer

Funeral service for Alvin C. Mayer, 67, of Farmington, was held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Methodist church at Farmington. Rev. Leroy Moore, pastor of the Farmington Methodist church and Rev. Dale Nicholson of Colfax officiated. Burial was in Greenglade cemetery with Masonic rites at graveside. Miller's Home for Funerals in Farmington was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Mayer died Saturday, Mar. 12 at 4 p.m. in his home at Farmington after a lengthy illness.

He was born April 28, 1898 at Keokuk, the son of George and Anna Schulz Mayer. He spent his childhood in Keokuk and Fort Madison.

On June 9, 1926 at Fort Madison, he married Mary Byers, who survives. He moved to Farmington from Fort Madison in 1932.

He was formerly employed at the Gamble store in Farmington, had also worked as a machinist for the railroad, and had been employed as a guard at the Iowa State Prison at Fort Madison.

Mr. Mayer was a member of the Methodist church at Farmington and the Masonic lodge.

Besides his widow, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Roy (Ruth) Sargeant of Farmington and a son, Donald Mayer of Fort Madison; one brother, Charles Mayer of Fort Madison; two sisters, Mrs. Frances Riherd of Burlington and Mrs. Irene Luessenhop of Villa Park, Ill. and one grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, one daughter in infancy, and one granddaughter in infancy.
