Bruce Minear Baird, 59, an engineer with the Public Health Service's division of radiological health, died yesterday (Thursday, Jan. 27) at his home on Germantown Road, Mayo, Md., after a long illness.

He was secretary of the Inter-Laboratory Technical Advisory Committee of the division, a member of the Health Physics Society and the District Society of Professional Engineers, and a reserve officer in the PHS commissioned corps.

Baird was born in Keokuk, Iowa, and received a master's degree in chemical engineering at Oklahoma University. He was an engineer with the Phillips Petroleum Co. for 12 years before entering government service.

He leaves his wife, Gwen W. of Mayo; a daughter, Mrs. Frank Stover Clark of Quantico, Va.; a son, Navy Lt. Robert B. Baird of Annapolis, Md.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29 at Mayo Memorial Methodist Church, with burial there. The family requests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the church for a memorial there.
