EMMETT CANFIELD

MILTON - Emmett A. Canfield, 85, died Saturday at 5:30 a.m. at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua, which he had entered earlier in the day.

He was born April 7, 1891, in Chequest Township of Van Buren County to Hesikiah Melich and Alice Brown Canfield. He was a 50-year member of the Knights of Pythias.

His first wife, Sybil, preceded him in death. On Dec. 4, 1965, he married Caddie Norman. She survives.

Also surviving are two children, Max Canfield of Marshalltown and Dora Smith of Cantril; three grandchildren; and four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The service will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Milton United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Herbert DeMello officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery.

Visitation will be tonight from 7 to 9 o'clock at Wellborn Funeral Home.

The casket will be closed at the beginning of the funeral. A memorial has been established.
