GEORGE L. MOORE

George L. Moore, 94, passed away at 6:15 a.m. Saturday at the Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua. He was born October 14, 1881 in Van Buren County, the son of Charles and Nancy Kisling Moore.

He lived in Eldon most of his life. He was employed by the Rock Island Railroad as a fireman and was promoted to an engineer in 1925, and retired in 1951.

He was a member of the Eldon Christian Church. He was also a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Fireman and a member of the masonic lodge at Eldon.

His marriage to Alpha Jackson took place December 25, 1906. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Edith Anderson of Burlington and Mrs. Velda Applebee of Garden Grove, Calif.; 3 sons, Ralph of Pueblo, Colo., Herbert of West Burlington and Charles of Eldon; 9 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Mabel Huffman of Fairfield, and Mrs. Alberta Laird of Torrington, Wyo., and one brother, Floyd of Eldon.

He was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.

Funeral services were Monday at 2 p.m. at the Eldon Christian Church, with Rev. Earl Menning officiating. Burial was in the Eldon Cemetery, where Masonic rites were held. Pallbearers were Glenn Burkholder, Harley Sloan, Richard Durflinger, Robbie Nichols, Roy Potts, and Lawrence Wilkinson.
