MADGE SHEROD

Madge Sherod, daughter of Benjamin and Allie Stong Short was born March 1, 1887, near Kilbourn and departed this life, Wednesday, October 1, 1975, at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua, at the age of 88. On August 19, 1908 she married Clayton Sherod. They spent their life farming in the Kilbourn community.

Remaining to cherish her memory are her widower, two sons, William of rural Birmingham, and Joe of Sun City Center, Florida, three grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

In earlier years, Mrs. Sherod was active in the Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church and later in the Kilbourn Methodist Church. She was a member of Twin City Chapter No. 258, Order of Eastern Star at Douds and the Kilbourn Ladies Aid.

Her primary interests in life were her home and family, and in later years the care of her husband during his infirmity. To these she was most devoted.

Funeral services were held Friday, October 3, 1975, at 2 p.m. at the Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Harold Schnedler, pastor officiating. Pall bearers were Chas. Schafer, Jr., Gordon Gilbert, Dean Topping, Hubert Gilbert, John Bell and Boss Leyden. Interment was in the Kilbourn Cemetery, with arrangements in charge of Pedrick Funeral Home, Douds. A memorial was established for the Kilbourn Cemetery.
