Horace Powers

Horace Theodore Powers, 71, of 1703 Bank, died at 12:50 a.m. Monday, at St. Joseph Hospital.

He was born June 16, 1904, in Keokuk, the son of the late Henry Milton and Nellie Grant Welch Powers. He had been employed by Flynn and Boyle Furniture Company, at Schlotter's Florist for over 30 years, Sullivan and Auwerda Store and Keokuk Federal Savings and Loan Company. He married Marjorie Avalin Young Aug. 14, 1926, in Keokuk. She survives.

Mr. Powers was a member of the First Christian Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles for over 45 years.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Elmer (Mary Alma) Kay, Keokuk; and Mrs. Frank (June Caline) Witte, Pine, Colo.; two granddaughters, three grandsons, one great-grandson and one sister, Mrs. Willard (Bessie) Myers, Keokuk.

Mr. Powers was preceded in death by three brothers.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, at DeJong Funeral Home. The Rev. R. Terry Halstead will officiate. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery.

The Eagles will hold a memorial service at 8 p.m., tonight, at the funeral home.
