Marie Belle Kurka

OTTUMWA - Marie Belle Kurka, 72, Ottumwa, former Fairfield resident, died Saturday, March 27, 1993, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

The service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa with the Rev. Richard Quinlan officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield. Visitation is open at the funeral home with the family present from 7 to 8 tonight. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of Florence DeBuhr, No. 3 Carter Court Lane, Ottumwa, or to the Ottumwa Regional Health Center Foundation for Home Health Care.

Mrs. Kurka was born Dec. 3, 1920, in Birmingham, the daughter of Thomas Irving and Virgie Blanche Gaul Williams. She married John S. Kurka on Dec. 27, 1941, in Memphis, Mo. She had lived in the Fairfield area until 1960, when they moved to Eldon. In 1982, they moved to Ottumwa.

She was affiliated with Fairfield First United Methodist Church and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Surviving are her husband; two daughters, Joanne Marie Yeager of Ottumwa, Sharon Sue Deeds of Junction City, Kan.; two sons, Steven Thomas, Harold LeRoy, both of Ottumwa; 11 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; five sisters, Faye Dooley of Raytown, Mo., Lucille Doughty of Agency, Beryl Kerr of Douds, Beulah Philips of Keosauqua, Marjory Gould of Richland; a brother, Robert Williams of Keosauqua.

Two brothers, Lester and John Williams, preceded her in death.
