Between February 8, 1856 and August 20, 1924, sketched the span of life of a kind and useful respected citizen of this community.
Oliver Thurston Wolf, the son of Martha J. and Andrew S. Wolf, was born near Eaton, Preble county, Ohio and passed away at St. Joseph Hospital, Ottumwa, Iowa. He came with his parents when a small boy to Lee county, Iowa, by wagon and remained there until 1876, when they moved to Cantril, living there until 1884 when they moved to a farm near Keosauqua, which was his home for 35 years. In 1919 he with his family moved to a farm near Cantril, which was his home for 5 years, and in the spring of 1924 came back near Keosauqua where he lived till God called him to his heavenly home.
On October 27, 1897, he was united in marriage to Sarah C. Matheson. To this union were born four children, Veda, George Edmund, who preceded the father in death, Vera Louise and Florence Olive. Besides these he leaves one brother John M., of Allerton, Iowa; two sisters, Mattie, whose home has always been with him and his family, and Mrs. Maggie Arnold, of Douds, Iowa, several nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends.
When a boy he united with the Presbyterian church and had always kept that faith.
About two years ago the dread disease of cancer fastened its hold upon him but he went about his work uncomplaining until five weeks ago he suffered a broken shoulder. After that his health failed very fast. He underwent a surgical operation August 18, but the physical body was too weak to receive nourishment and he slept peacefully away from us at 3:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, aged 68 years, 6 months and 12 days.
Eternal rest forevermore,
For he now dwells on that bright shore.Funeral services were held at the Cantril M.E. Church August 22, in charge of Rev. J.C. Caughelan, pastor of Keosauqua M.E. Church. Burial was in the Maple Grove cemetery Friday afternoon.
I am not related; this Obit. was in an old family scrapbook; posted for those who might have an interest.
