Harold S. Morris

Harold S. Morris, 64, passed away Tuesday evening, Oct. 2 at the Van Buren Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua. He had entered the hospital Sept. 15th after suffering a severe heart attack.

He was the son of Steven R. and Emma Smith Morris and was born in Scotland County, Mo. near Mt. Sterling, Iowa on Aug. 31, 1909.

Harold and Gladys Breckenridge were united in marriage on Nov. 14, 1938, in Unionville, Mo.

He is survived by his widow, Gladys; and four children, a son, Darrel of Bonaparte, and three daughters, Mrs. Carrol Septer of Mt. Sterling, Mrs. Barbara Roberts of Luray, Mo. and Mrs. Beulah French of Bloomfield; and nine grandchildren. Also a brother, Melvin, and a sister, Mrs. Arthur Poling, both of Keosauqua.

Preceding him in death was one grandson, Ricky Wayne Septer; a brother, Phil Morris of Cantril; his parents and step-mother, Mrs. Margaret Morris; and his wife, Ethel, by a previous marriage.

Harold was a member of the Asbury Church and the Masonic Lodge in Keosauqua. He served on the Mt. Sterling school board for a number of years, the town council for 23 years and Harness Cemetery Association for a number of years.

He lived most of his life in the Mt. Sterling community. He was employed as a unit foreman for Van Buren County Maintenance for over 25 years.

He was a devoted husband and father and dearly loved his grandchildren. One of Harold's greatest interests in life was to serve his community.

The funeral was held Friday Oct. 5 at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist church, Mt. Sterling. Burial was in Harness cemetery near Mt. Sterling.
