Craig Pettit

Craig Pettit, son of Albert and Jennie Craig Pettit, was born Jan. 11, 1895, on the family farm near Mt. Sterling and departed this life Saturday, Aug. 4, 1973, at the Park View Care Center in Fairfield at the age of 78.

On June 3, 1925 he was married to Dorothy Jennings who passed away in 1956. A brother, Hazen, also preceded him in death.

Remaining to cherish his memory are a son, Dean, of Fairfield; a daughter, Mrs. Helen Rogers of Mt. Pleasant; daughter-in-law, Bernita Pettit and son-in-law Rudy Rogers, six grandchildren, a brother, Dr. Stanley Pettit of Cleveland, Tenn., other relatives and many friends.

Mr. Pettit was a graduate of Gem City Business College and Iowa State University. He was an instructor in the Veterans Farm Training Program following World War II and served on the Farmers Home Administration County Committee. He was a Past President of the Van Buren Telephone Co.

A Navy veteran of World War I, he was a charter member of Beer-Barker Post, American Legion at Keosauqua and a charter member of the Van Buren County Farm Bureau.

He was a member of the Christian Church, and will be remembered as a leader in Church and community affairs.

Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 6, 1973 at 2 P.M. at the Mt. Sterling United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Edward Philgreen officiating. Mrs. George Carnahan was the pianist. Pall bearers were Max Madden, Luvene Heald, John Craig, Jack Mitchell, Wayne Brown and Lloyd Madden. Arrangements were in charge of Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua.
