William C. Shultz

William C. Shultz, 43, of Highland Center, was dead on arrival at St. Joseph Hospital at 11:50 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3. Death was due to a heart attack according to Dr. Warren DeKraay, county medical examiner.

He was a brakeman for the Burlington Northern Railroad and had been employed by the company for 21 years.

He was born Aug. 6, 1929, at Bentonsport, the son of Giles and Carrie Hughey Shultz. He lived in Wapello County most of his life and was a member of the United Transportation Union. He married June Yates Sept. 19, 1955, in Kansas City, Mo. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Cheryl and Julie, both at home; two sons, Mark at home, and William D. of Davenport; one grandson; his father, Giles Shultz, Sr. of Ottumwa; two brothers, Woodrow of Chicago and Giles Shultz Jr. of Ottumwa and two sisters, Mrs. Grace Mundy of Chicago and Mrs. Anna Poil of Ottumwa.

He was preceded in death by an infant son and his mother.

The funeral was Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Robert Hefty of the Hedrick United Methodist Church officiated. Burial was in Shaul Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Ora and Raymond Rose, Jerry Heady, Stanley Thompson, Larry Zook and Leonard Milligan.
