Walter Breitenstein

The funeral service for Walter Breitenstein, 82, was held at 2 p.m. Monday in the United Methodist Church in Farmington.

Walter V. Breitenstein was born March 1, 1890, in Primrose, the son of William and Alice Campbell Breitenstein. He died at 8:05 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2 at Sacred Heart Hospital, Ft. Madison.

He was married on December 29, 1923 to Sara Miner at Ft. Madison. She survives. He was a retired farmer and spent his entire life in the Farmington area. He was a member of the American Legion Post at Farmington and was a 50 year member of Mt. Moriah Lodge 27, A.F. & A.M. at Farmington.

He is survived by his wife, three sons, Glenn and Jack, both of Anchorage, Alaska; Larry, of Farmington; four daughters, Mrs. John (Virgil) Kerr, Kahoka, Mo.; Mrs. John (Betty) Mead, Ft. Madison; Mrs. Don (Edith) Shaffer, Farmington; and Mrs. Don (Sue) Klesner of Fairfield; three sisters, Mrs. Della Wood and Mrs. Edith White, both of Ft. Madison; and Mrs. Verna Roth of Donnellson; 14 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, two sisters and one brother.

A Masonic service was conducted Sunday evening at the Funeral Home and a military service was conducted at the cemetery.

Rev. Edward Maus officiated. Burial was in Acklam cemetery. Miller-Hofbauer had charge of the service.
