Harry E. Clawson

Harry Ellis Clawson, son of Coloma and Flora Sponsler Clawson, was born March 7, 1890, at Ottumwa and departed this life Monday, Jan. 22, 1973, at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua at the age of 82.

Most of his life was spent in the Ottumwa and Agency communities. He lived for a time at Waterloo and had resided in Selma since 1961.

On September 8, 1960, he was married to Velva Gleason. She preceded him in death in 1969. A brother, Jesse Clawson, also preceded him in death.

Remaining to cherish his memory are nieces andn nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mr. Clawson was a veteran of World War I, and a member of John Hyson Reneker Post No. 494, American Legion at Douds. Mr. Clawson will be remembered for his self-reliance and attitude of good will toward his neighbors and friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 24, 1973 at 2 p.m. at the Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, with the Rev. Earl D. Kelly, pastor of the Selma United Methodist Church officiating. Pall bearers were Dale Canady, Lloyd Davis, Allen Ritz, Glen Roby, Bruck Blackburn and Ralph Ritz. Interment was in the Iowaville Cemetery near Selma.
