EMMA E. HOOTMAN

Mrs. Emma E. Hootman, daughter of Carl and Minna Stielow Zuehlke, was born October 16, 1896, near Libertyville and departed this life Wednesday August 2, 1972, at her home in Douds at the age of 75. Most of her life was spent in the Douds community.

On August 26, 1922 she was married to Walter Hootman at Galesburg, Illinois. he remains to cherish her memory along with their three daughters, Mrs. Darlene Horn of Winterset, Mrs. Norma Dingman of Quitman, Arkansas, and Mrs. Helen Finney of Cedar Rapids and sons-in-law Tom Horn, Jim Dingman and Bob Finney. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and a brother, Frank Zuehlke of Fairfield, other relatives and many friends. A daughter, Betty died in infancy. Also preceding her in death were two sisters and three brothers.

Emma was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary both of Douds and was active in both groups so long as her health permitted.

She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, a good neighbor and a true friend to all who knew her.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 5, 1972 at 2 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Earl Kelly, Pastor, officiating. Vocalists were Jon Finney and Mrs. Robert Pedrick, accompanied by Kathleen Pedrick. Pall bearers were Walter, Raymond, Richard, Dale and Lawrence Zuehlke and James Shelley.

Interment was in Zion Lutheran Cemetery near Douds. Arrangements were in charge of Pedrick Funeral Home.
