John Witt

John Witt son of Charles W. and Sarah Witt was born March 13, 1887 near Keosauqua, Iowa and departed this life Nov. 1, 1971 in Southern Oregon Hospital, Grants Pass, Oregon, at the age of 84 years, 7 months and 18 days.

In 1906 he went to Montana where he farmed until he moved to Grants Pass, Oregon in 1925. For several years he ran the irrigation ditch there. Later working for the Lumber Company until his retirement.

On Nov. 11, 1908, he was united in marriage to Anna Zwiefel who preceded him in death.

He is survived by four daughters: Alta Davis, Central Point, Oregon; Edith Durwachter, San Rafael, California; Ethel Payne, Hillsboro, Oregon; and Fred Le Neve, Carmel, California. Two sons: Frank, Sand Springs, Montana; Allen of Spraks, Nevada, thirteen grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Five brothers: Sam, Billings, Montana; Allen, Fairfield, Iowa; Clarence of Keosauqua; Charlie of Douds and George of Mountain Home, Arkansas. Three sisters: Jennie Witt of Fairfield; Mrs. Ada Warren and Mrs. Della Forbes, Keosauqua. Several nieces and nephews, many other relatives and friends.

Services were held Nov. 4 in the Hall Memory Chapel with the Rev. Don Michael of Church of Christ officiating. Burial in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
