Barker service

SELMA - The service for Mary Lou Barker, 42, who died early Thursday at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua, will be Saturday, 2 p.m., at Selma United Methodist Church.

The Rev. Gerald Kaughron and the Rev. Everett Day will officiate. The casket will be taken to the church, from the Pedrick Funeral Home at Douds, at 11 a.m. Saturday and will be closed at the beginning of the service. Burial will be in Eldon Cemetery.

The daughter of Floyd and Lola Ritz Haney, she was born Nov. 29, 1928 south of here, and had lived all her life in the Selma community. She graduated from Selma High School in 1945 and attended Parsons College. She had taught school at Douds and at Selma, and in Van Buren County rural schools. On Aug. 27, 1950 she married Ellis D. Barker at Bloomfield.

Also surviving are one daughter, Linda, a student at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant and her mother, Mrs. Lola Haney of Selma.

She was preceded in death by her father and one brother, Sgt. Neil Haney, who was killed in World War II.

She was a member of Selma United Methodist Church, a teacher in its church school and had served as president of W.S.C.S. and on numerous church committees. She was a member of Twin City Chapter O.E.S. at Douds, in which she had held several offices. She has also been active in Village Township Farm Bureau and extension work.
