THURSDAY, AUGUST 12, 1971

Postmaster William Paul Marshall, 54, of Farmington died at 9:45 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 8, in St. Joseph hospital, Keokuk, shortly after he was admitted. Marshall suffered a heart attack at home Sunday morning. The Volunteer Fire Department's emergency squad responded to a call for the resuscitator at 8:45 a.m. Marshall was rushed to the hospital under oxygen in an ambulance.

He was born Nov. 22, 1916, at Farmington, the son of Elliott and Edith Wollenweber Marshall.

On March 15, 1947 at Farmington, he married Monique Walter of Basse-Yutz, Moselle, France. She survives.

Marshall was in his eighth year as postmaster. The Senate confirmed his nomination to the post by President Kennedy in October of 1963. Marshall had served as acting postmaster since April 20, 1962, succeeding Floyd Millen, who resigned. Prior to that he was employed as advertising and sales representative for the Record-Republican at Bonaparte.

A 1935 graduate of the Farmington High School, he served in the infantry in Europe during W.W. II.

He was a member of the Farmington United Methodists church; was a past commander, adjutant, and service officer of Richardson-Anthony Post 231 of the American Legion and had served as adjutant of the Van Buren County post of the American Legion. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 4563. Marsahll was a past master of the Mt. Moriah lodge 27 AF & AM and was a 32nd degree Mason, Davenport Consistory. He served several years as treasurer of the former Farmington Commercial Club and was a present secretary of the Lions Club. He served as secretary-treasurer of the Farmington Medical Center Inc. when it was formed. He was a member of the Volunteer Fire Department.

In addition to his widow, he is survived by his father of Farmington; two sisters, Edna Ponte of Farmington and Mrs. Harry (Ferne) Poole of Memphis, Mo.; one brother, Ernest Marshall of Revere, Mo.; two nieces; seven nephews, two great-nieces and ten great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

The funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, in the United Methodist church. The Rev. Edward Maus officiated. Burial was in Greenglade Cemetery with military rites. A Masonic service was held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10.

Miller-Hofbauer Funeral Home, Farmington, was in charge of arrangements.
