A Chicago insurance executive and former Donnellson, Iowa resident, Lyle Helsel, 60, of Naperville, Ill. died unexpectedly Sunday, Aug. 1 at 5:30 a.m. in a hospital in Oak Park, Ill.
He was born Oct. 15, 1910 at Keosauqua, Iowa and spent his childhood in Donnellson. He was the son of Dr. Frank Helsel and Mary Jane Forbes Helsel.
He married Doris Wirsig, a resident of Donnellson, on July 23, 1937 in Fort Madison. She survives.
He has been a resident of Naperville, Ill. the past 15 years, moving there from Cheyenne, Wyo.
He was the manager of the cashier's department of the Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States, Chicago office, at 401 North Michigan. He was a member of the Wesley United Methodist church at Naperville.
In addition to his widow, he is survived by his mother, Mary Helsel of Donnellson, Iowa; one daughter, Diane Helsel, at home; three brothers, Earl of New Jersey, Dwight of Dallas, Tex. and Wayne of Greensville, Mich.
He was preceded in death by his father and one brother.
The funeral service was held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Miller-Hofbauer Funeral Home, Donnellson, with the Rev. Alvin Kleinsasser officiating. Burial in Evangelical cemetery, Donnellson.
