Gordon Raymond Faught, 93, of Douds, passed away February 21, 2018, at the Keosauqua Health Care Center. Gordon was born September 12, 1924, in Atlanta, MO, the son of Elmer Clair and Hattie Penland Faught. He grew up in Brookfield, MO, and graduated from Brookfield High School in 1942. In December 1942, he married Eva Wheeler in Brookfield, MO. They later divorced. He married Mary L. Barnett Dempsey on August 16, 1980, in Fairfield, IA.

Gordon joined the Marine Corps in March 1943 and served in the Pacific during WWII. He worked for Brown Shoe Factory in Brookfield as a young man. Gordon and Eva moved to Ft. Madison, IA, where - he worked on the Santa Fe Railroad. He then worked as staff manager for Prudential Insurance Company in Burlington and Ottumwa, retiring in 1986.

Gordon coached Little League Baseball and won the city championship in 1959 while living in Ft. Madison. Gordon also taught grade school basketball. In 1995, Gordon and Mary moved to Douds, IA, where he was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church serving on the board of trustees and the administrative board. He served a term as commander | of the John Hyson Reneker American Legion Post 494. Gordon was also a member of Celestial Lodge 413 of Douds. He managed the Douds senior meal site for several years and received the Governor's Award for Volunteerism. In addition, he was a member of the Douds Community Club.

Gordon is survived by his wife Mary; four daughters, Alice. (Ted) Thorn, Peggy Link, Mary (Dick) Broeg, Jane (Chuck) Grabowski; three stepchildren, Kurt Dempsey, Myra Davis, Laura (Bob) Crist; 10 grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; nine step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and five sisters.

Funeral services with military rites were held February 26, 2018, at Christ United Methodist Church in Douds, IA. Masonic Rites took place at the funeral, home on Sunday. Cremation followed the service with burial to be held at a later date in Hillsboro Cemetery.
