Armilda Brown Atkins

Armilda Alice Atkins, daughter of Thomas and Julia Brown, was born December 1, 1875 near Lebanon, Iowa, in Van Buren county; and departed this life in the Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua, Iowa, December 30, 1960, at the age of 85 years.

On March 4, 1920 she was united in marriage to William E. Atkins at the family home one mile west of Milton. Until the death of her husband on November 26, 1936 they made their home on a farm five miles south of Milton. Later she moved to Milton living in her own home until a broken hip and failing health forced her to live in a nursing home.

For sixty-four years she was a member of the Grace Methodist church at Milton, serving faithfully as long as her health permitted. She was a charter member of the Women's Society of Christian Service.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, and three sisters.

She is survived by her two step-children, Worth A. Atkins of Fort Madison, Iowa, and Mrs. Naomi Carpenter of Lockridge, Iowa; four brothers - David and Edd Brown both residing in the Moore Nursing Home at Stockport, William Brown of Memphis, Missouri; and Charlie Brown of Milton.

Funeral services were held at the Grace Methodist church in Milton on Sunday, January 1, 1961 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Harold Harryman officiating. Interment was in Sunnyside cemetery.
