Judith Ann (Judy) Thomas, age 67, of Keosauqua, IA, died January 5, 2018, at home with family. The daughter of Jack and Betty (Perkins) Mitchell, she was born June 7, 1950, at Fairfield, IA. On March 21, 1997, she married Melvin Riley Thomas at the Van Buren County Courthouse. She was a graduate of Van Buren High School and attended Southeastern Community College. She worked for 29 years first as a cook and later retired as the food service supervisor at Van Buren County Schools. Prior to that she worked for Hotel Manning, Good Samaritan (KHCC), Keosauqua Sale Barn, and Farm Bureau. She was the president of the county Farm Bureau. She was also involved in other community activities. She was a member of the Center Chapel church. She was an avid Cardinals fan, she enjoyed watching sports, shopping, collecting TY beanies, watching birds, her cookbooks, and loved to spend time with her family.

She is survived by her husband Melvin of Keosauqua; two sons, Jack and Catherine Schafer of Fairfield, and Scott and Cathy Schafer of Keosauqua; three stepchildren, Melody and Lowell Johns of Ottumwa, Brenda and Eric Jensen of Hedrick, and Michael and Lindee Thomas of Milton; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; mother Betty Mitchell of Keosauqua; two sisters, Chris Morgan of Mt. Pleasant and Diane Mitchell of Fenton, MO.

She was preceded in death by her father Jack Mitchell, brother-in-law, Randy Morgan, and grandparents.

Visitation will be Thursday, January 11, 2018, from 5-7 p.m. at the Lebanon Methodist Church. Family will be present. Private interment will be later.
