Harley W. Abernathy

Harley W. Abernathy, 79, Elgin, Ill., died at 3:30 a.m. Sunday at St. Joseph's Hospital in Elgin.

He was born Aug. 2, 1903 in Cantril to John and Icy Scott Abernathy. A machinist and former resident of the Milton and Cantril area, he worked for Chicago Latrob for several years before retiring. He married Bertha Chase on Dec. 22, 1922 in Pulaski.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Ruby Oneal of Hoffman Estates, Ill.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Bloomfield First Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Steven G. Albrecht. Burial in the Sunnyside Cemetery in Milton. The Wagler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
