Donald Moke Killed While Lying on Highway

Donald Moke, 20, was killed Wednesday morning about 2:30 when struck by a car driven by George Paul Randolph, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Randolph of Bonaparte. Mr. Randolph was returning from a boat excursion on the steamer President at Burlington and was coming into Farmington from the east when he struck the body of Mr. Moke which was lying on the pavement. Moke's skull was fractured and his left arm broken.

Sheriff Picard was called. Evidence indicated the accident was unavoidable insofar as Mr. Randolph was concerned and the body was taken to Pages funeral home in Farmington.

The accident occurred a short distance east of the Rock Island railroad crossing. Near the scene of the accident were three young men, Charles Murphy, Harold Fine and Oscar Peacock of Farmington. They and Mr. Moke had evidently driven to that locality in a car which was parked nearby.

The four young men above mentioned are said to have been in Ft. Madison during the night and were returning home when they parked their car just before reaching Farmington.

Evidence indicates that Moke and Peacock may have been wrestling or scuffling when hit by the Randolph car. Peacock was only slightly injured.
