Dr. Ralph Roberts Dies At 75; Philanthropist, Civic Leader

Dr. Ralph S. Roberts, 75, a former member of the Mission Bay Park Commission, philanthropist and community leader, died yesterday of a heart attack at his home, 2002 Wilbur St.

Roberts, a native of Iowa, had lived here since 1932. He held a medical degree, but never had practiced medicine. He taught school in Tucson, Ariz., and engaged in the real estate business at Pasadena.

EX-GOP CHAIRMAN
A former chairman of the San Diego County Republican Central Committee, Roberts was first vice president of the San Diego Historical Society and second vice president of the Serra Museum board of directors.

Roberts also was a past president of the San Diego Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution, and a vice president of the California Society. He was a former area commander of the American Legion and a member of its Business and Professional Post, the Pacific Beach Rotary Club, the University Club, Pacific Beach Town Council, the Quain Garden Foundation, the Cacti and Succulent Society, Humane Society and the Floral Association.

Credited with much philanthropic activity, Roberts donated $75,000 for construction of the new Pacific Beach Woman's Club headquarters on Soledad Road. It was named the Marian Morgan Roberts Memorial Building in honor of his wife, a past president of the club, who died in 1957.

SESSIONS BACKER

Roberts also was a leader in winning community recognition for the late Kate O. Sessions, internationally known San Diego horticulturist.

Surviving Roberts are a brother, Frank, of San Diego, and a sister. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. Interment will be in Greenwood Memorial Park. The family suggest memorial contributions to United Community Services.
