Edith M. Gire dies at 96

Edith M. Gire, 96, longtime resident of the Fairfield Community, died at 9:30 p.m. Sunday at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Keosauqua.

Her home had been at 51 N. Morgan before she moved to the Care Center 11 years ago.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Behner Funeral Home with burial in Evergreen Cemetery.

Edith M. Gire was born Sept. 4, 1887, in Jefferson County. She was the daughter of Gustaf and Emma Anderson. She was married to Edward Gire June 1, 1918, in Fairfield. He died Aug. 18, 1972.

Survivors include two daughters, Elaine Boysel, Fairfield, and Carolyn Kauffman, Fairfax, Va., and one grandson.

She was preceded in death by four brothers. Mrs. Gire was a member of the First Lutheran Church.
