Bertha O. Peck dies at 78

Bertha O. Peck, 78, 602 E. Adams, died Friday at 3 a.m. at the Manor House Care Center in Sigourney.

The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. William Sullivan officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Prayers for a Christian wake will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at Raymond Funeral Home. Mass memorials may be left at the funeral home.

Mrs. Peck was born Dec. 1, 1904 in Henry County, the daughter of Jacob and Ethel Long Kilburn. She married Anthony Peck Oct. 30, 1920 at Pleasant Plain. He preceded her in death. The family moved from their home near Brookville to Fairfield in 1952.

Surviving are nine children, Louise Reed of Richland, Ethel Mineart, Lucille Rogers, Joan Allerdice, Shirley Miller, Donna Johnson, Larry Peck, all of Fairfield, Marcella Atwater of Knoxville, Ill., Harley Peck of Stockport; 44 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildre; two sisters, Ruth Roland of Fairfield, Bessie Oyler of Avon, Ill.; three brothers, Wayne Kilburn of Eliza, Ill., Junior Kilburn of Milburn, Okla., and Alvin Kilburn of Tulsa, Okla. Her parents, three sons, two sisters and three brothers preceded her in death.

A resident of Jefferson County her entire life, Mrs. Peck was employed for many years as a cook at Parsons College and at the Walton Club. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Altar and Rosary Society and VFW Auxiliary.
